Success is a fickle thing. Down in the valley, you might get lucky, and it'll come to you unwarranted. You might even get away with it, despite not really getting the satisfaction you were looking for. High up in the mountains, luck is often scarce, and the only road to success is through hard work. Even then, it might not be enough. This is our tent below Alpamayo after our unsuccessful attempt of the French Direct route. We simply didn't stack the odds enough in our favour. What you always get, however, more so in a case of failure, is irreplaceable experience. With each passing day, I'm more grateful to have these memories. I hope that in the future, this might make me cherish the oncoming experiences just a little bit more.
